An ‘As Is’ forklift truck says what it implies, though we do of course ensure that a number of things are done so we are not selling you a inferior machine. If the forklift truck is from our own fleet or one which we have carried out the service and repairs to then we are able to review the service history, if it is a new forklift truck to us we would visit and carry out a full inspection on it. A forklift truck in the ‘Cleaned, Serviced and Painted category means, that there are a number of things that we do to ensure that you are happy with what you are to receive. The forklift truck is brought back to our depot where it is steam cleaned and fully serviced. Any faults would be drawn to your attention and a price given to rectify them before you buy. Q. I have a 2000 sq ft warehouse and a lorry delivers 5 pallets of wine once a week to the front door what level of second hand forklift truck do I need?

A. Perhaps an electric three wheel forklift truck would suit the application as you don’t need to go outside too much. Five pallets per week is very low usage and the price of a new forklift truck may be too much. Look for an ‘As Is’ forklift truck, but if it is electric powered make sure the battery is in good order.

Q. The problem I have is cash flow, we are a new company and need a year or two to get up and running and a few thousand spent on a forklift truck now would be unacceptable. We handle general freight in and outside the warehouse up to 2.5 tonnes. What forklift truck would suit me?

A. If a higher percentage of your workload is outside then you should think about a Gas powered engine forklift truck. On the budget side keep the outgoings down with a cleaned, serviced and painted forklift truck and even better start off with it on a rental of say three years. This keeps the costs low and as importantly it fixes them so you can budget sensibly with no additional costs for service and repairs. Finally if you want to change the truck within three years or even buy the rented one this can always be done without a hefty penalty.

My yard is concreted but quite long, the concrete blocks that I store weigh from ½ tonne up to 2 tonnes and we unload and shift around seventeen or eighteen lorry loads per week and despatch a similar number too so I need two forklift trucks. I have good drivers but they are not all trained on the forklift trucks. Finance is always important and I don’t want to hear about my forklift trucks I just want them working.
