Preventive Maintenance Servicing

You would be unlikely to run your £15,000 new car without servicing it at least once a year, and yet the forklift truck in many operations is less well looked after than the coffee machine.

How often do you have your car serviced?

In general the average actual use of a forklift truck in one year is 1500 hours.

Remember, you take your car to the garage but we come to your premises to fix the forklift

1500 hours per year is like 45,000 miles in your car

If that were compared to the average speed of a car around 30 miles per hour then your ‘average’ forklift truck would have the equivalent of 45,000 miles: definitely time for a service (or two) per year at least.

 

Q.        What will I get for the service cost?
A.        Our engineer will travel to your site at a time mutually acceptable; he will find the truck and check with the operator if there are any problems (remember you take you car to the garage). Then he will drain the engine oil and take off the filter, take out the air filter and fit a new one, take off the fuel filter and fit a new one, fit the new engine oil filter and top up the oil. Then he works through a checklist of over 70 items to make sure your forklift truck is in good working order.

Q.        How do I know what he has checked on my forklift truck.
A.        The engineer fills out a service report sheet with all of the items he has checked either ticked if they are satisfactory or numbered if there has been a problem with that particular item.

Q.        What happens if the engineer finds a fault forklift truck.
A.        If it is a simple fault and both he and you can spare the time he may well correct it there and then. If on the other hand the fault needs parts or is a longer job then he will discuss with you the repair needed and report the requirement to our office. From there you will receive a written quotation for the repairs as needed to your forklift truck, with the cost broken down into travel, labour and parts. It is then up to your discretion as to which repairs you have done. We will always draw to your attention where the faults are likely to affect health and safety.

N.B parts used are charged for additionally at the prevailing rate. A charge is made for the environmental disposal of any waste products generated during the service. All prices exclude vat.
