Hand Pallet Trucks

Hand Pallet Trucks

The Hand Pallet forklift truck is one of the most used and abused pieces of equipment in the warehouse today. Those that don’t disappear on the back of a lorry sooner or later get damaged falling from the back of a lorry. They are nonetheless a vital support to the forklift trucks and in some cases all that an operation needs.

However even with these simple forklift truck based units there is a whole range of options in width, in length, in height etc… So which is right for you? Firstly your goods do of course need to have a gap underneath so that the forks can go under, this doesn't’t necessarily mean they have to be on a pallet, perhaps the item stands on legs, or there are bearers under the load, either way they need to be high enough to roll the fork arms under.
The length and width of the forks depends very much on the load that you want to move, standard pallets for example could use a 680 mm x 1000 mm or a 520 mm by 1100 mm. In the printing industry however you would almost certainly only want a 450 mm by 800 mm.

Here is a basic guide to the sizes available in the Warrior range:

Pallet Truck Specials

Even if your particular need is not shown in the basic table there are many options that are available and here are just a few:

  • Quick lift, allowing the initial raising of the forks at a more rapid rate than once the load is taken up.
  • Extra Long, with lengths up to 2000 mm especially useful for moving some types of machinery and boxed loads.
  • Reel Carriers, with angled load arms to handle reels of paper or coils of wire giving a flat surface against the material rather than an edge.
  • Low and Super Low Profile, for loads which have thinner bearers or corner blocks meaning a standard truck can’t get under; these models have fork arms which are around 30 mm to 50 mm lower.
  • Weighing Scales, A pallet truck that can check weigh each of your loads  or weigh the loads as you make them up, a real time saver.
  • Galvanised, for those applications which are damp and with option of stainless bearings they can be used in constantly wet areas where standard trucks would soon rust.
  • Stainless, especially suitable in the pharmaceutical and food industries or where there is a saline, alkaline or acidic environment.
  • Rough Terrain, a pallet truck to work in the yard area, with large pneumatic tyred wheels and adjustable fork width ideal for where the standard pallet truck would ground out.
  • High Capacity, with a lifting capacity of 5000 Kg this is a special for such as the machinery moving industry where loads can be compact but heavy.
  • High Lift, capable of lifting the load up to 500 mm with a scissor action under the load arms, excellent for loading small boxes onto the pallet at a suitable height all of the time. Available with either manual or electric lift.

Powered Pallet Trucks

There comes a point where either the load is too great or the number and length of any movements exceeds the manual abilities of even the strongest operator. The obvious option is to use a powered forklift pallet tuck.

Allowing the operator to both lift and shift the loads effortlessly and precisely the powered forklift pallet truck is an inexpensive and simple alternative to a forklift truck. The traction battery allows for a full shift use and recharging is on an automatic overnight charger. Safety is an important requirement at all times, the low rear skirt helps avoid catching feet underneath and a reversing button on the control arm acts as an anti trap device.

Brakes are fitted as standard and all of the lift and drive functions are operated from the control or Tiller Arm. Available as standard duty and heavy duty models each of the  can be further tailored to meet your needs with powered forklift pallet trucks are available with ride on platforms, different load arm dimensions and load arm styles.

Stacker Trucks

It may be that while you only need a pedestrian controlled forklift truck and you need to lift your loads higher than a pallet truck, but you don’t necessarily need the powered type. This means that you possibly need a Stacker Forklift Truck, however with different types of these which would be right?

Non powered pedestrian stackers are all very light capacity due to the difficulty for an operator to move the unit with a load on, especially when the load is in the air.

The manually operated stacker forklift truck comes either as a ‘wrap over support arm’ or as a ‘straddle support arm’. The arms stick out in front of the unit to support the load; otherwise the whole thing would fall over. These arms are important because if you want to load the pallet onto something else then you need room for these arms to go underneath.

The next level of the stacker forklift truck is a ‘semi-powered’ unit. It could be that you need to lift the loads quite often but they are light enough to push around the warehouse or workshop. This would then suggest the manual push / electric lift option. Available in either the wrap over support arm or the straddle support arm version this stacker forklift truck will speed up the operation.

For lifting loads onto loading areas such as docks or upper levels the support arms of the manually operated or semi-powered stacker forklift truck may well be an obstruction. The Counterbalance forklift truck stacker solves this problem; it is still a pedestrian controlled unit but can go right up to the side of a lorry or loading dock to place the load.  To add to the maneuverability of the counterbalance forklift truck stacker there is the option of a reach carriage to reduce the length of when carrying the load.
