Driver Training - It is required that...
Employers must ensure that all fork lift truck operators are adequately trained.
Training must cover basic skills and knowledge required for safe operation and include specific job training and familiarisation
Employers must provide adequate supervision and ensure that safe systems of work are installed and maintained after training.

Employees duties
- Every employee shall use any machinery, equipment, dangerous substances, transport equipment, means of production or safety device provided to him by his employer in accordance with both any training in use of equipment concerned which has been received by him and the instructions respecting that use which have been provided to him by the said employer in compliance with the requirements and prohibitations imposed upon that employer by or under the relevant statutory provisions.

- Every employer shall ensure that all persons who use work equipment have received adequate training for purposes of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using the work equipment, any risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken.

Obligation to provide basic training
- Employers should not allow anyone to operate, even on an a very occasional basis, lift trucks within the scope of this ACOP who have not satisfactorily completed basic training and testing as described in this ACOP, except for those undergoing such training under adequate supervision
Selection of instructors
- When arranging for training, employers should satisfy themselves that it is in accordance with this ACOP. Operator training should only be carried out by instructors who they themselves undergone appropriate training in instructional techniques and skills assessment. They should give instructions only on the types of fork lift truck and attachments for which they have been training and successfully tested as operators. Instructors also need sufficient industrial experience to enable them to put their instruction in context and an adequate knowledge of the working environment in which the trainee will be expected to operate
